When Tracey told me that she had booked a wedding at The Boathouse I was secretly hoping she’d ask me to second shoot it with her! And I’m so happy that she did ūüôā Isobel + Geoff’s day was nothing short of an amazing, classic, New York City wedding. I’m so excited to share some of my favorite images with you today!

Tracey and I met up with Isobel and her bridesmaids at Isobels’ parents beautiful apartment in Brooklyn. We started by photographing all of Isobels’ details (just LOOK at her shoes below!) and her bridesmaids in their matching robes up on the rooftop deck. So fun! There was an abundance of light pouring into the apartment from the floor to ceiling windows, which made for two very happy photographers!

We spent the rest of the day at The Boathouse, which is an unbelievable venue! Isobel + Geoff shared their first look on the bridge right across from their venue followed by a ceremony that overlooked the water. The two danced the night away with their family and friends. At the end of the night, Geoff + Isobel had a sparkler exit and drove off together in a Rolls Royce.

Congratulations, Geoff + Isobel! Be sure to check out Traceys’ post by clicking here!

If you’re in the middle of planning a wedding, you know that the process is intense and the to do list is never ending! There are so many details that have to be¬†thoughtfully taken care of to ensure a ¬†wedding day that’s as close to seamless as possible. That being said, it can be so easy to overlook some of the¬†day of and day after wedding details. Below are 5 common things that brides forget on the day of their wedding!

  1. Marriage License | This is a big one, haha! You definitely don’t want to forget the one piece of paper that makes your marriage¬†official.
  2. Wedding Party Gifts | Bring parent, bridal party, and bride + groom gifts with you the morning of the wedding (even better if you can leave them in the getting ready room the night before). This is such a wonderful way to show everyone how much you love and value them!
  3. Overnight bag | If you’re planning on staying at a hotel after the wedding is over, don’t forget to pack a small overnight bag! You can leave it tucked away in the getting ready room (if that’s where you’ll be spending the night), or in the limo.
  4. Comfy Shoes | Real talk: the majority of high heels are just not comfortable. Your feet will thank you if you change into a pair of cute flats during the reception.
  5. Timeline, Itinerary & Emergency Phone Numbers | Make a few copies of these documents and give them to each bridesmaids. This way, everyone knows exactly what is happening when. The emergency phone list should list the phone number of each vendor (just in case!) as well as the cell phone numbers of the maid of honor and best man.

Nicole and I had such a great time meeting up at two of my favorite spots in Morristown, NJ for her portrait session! Nicole graduated from Whippany Park High School this past June and officially started her college career last Sunday.  How exciting is that?!

Nicole is such a beauty, SO sweet, and full of contagious laughter — which I love! ¬†She had me laughing through out our entire session!¬† I feel like I say nearly¬†every¬†portrait session, but the weather worked out in our favor. ¬†I was almost positive that we were going to have to reschedule our session because of the rain. But, luckily the sun came out and we were able to take some beautiful pictures!

Best of luck in college, Nicole! I’m so excited to see what the future holds for you, and all that you will accomplish during the next four years! Enjoy some of my favorites from our session ūüôā I still have some spots available for my fall mini sessions in October! If you’re interested in having a family session, or a portrait session just like Nicole’s, click HERE!

I can’t believe that the summer is almost over! ¬†Seriously, how did that happen so quickly?¬†Even though I’m always a little sad to see summer go, I LOVE the fall and all of the fun that goes along with the season. ¬†When I¬†left the house this¬†morning to go for my coffee run, it already¬†felt like fall — a little chilly!¬†¬†To top it all off, when I got to Dunkin, ALL of the new seasonal flavors were out.¬†Naturally, I couldn’t¬†resist and I¬†ordered a pumpkin spice latte ūüôā¬†Here are a few things that I’ve always loved about the fall:

  1. Cool mornings and warm afternoons
  2. Getting to break out oversized comfy sweaters and boots
  3. Apple picking, pumpkin picking, and corn maze-ing (if only that was a word, haha!) with Ryan
  4. Warm ocean temperatures (October beach trips are the BEST!)
  5. Decking out my house in all of¬†the Halloween decorations!¬† I put up a spooky graveyard on my front lawn every year — it’s my favorite!
  6. Going to the Farmer’s Market in downtown Madison.¬† They have the best one around!
  7. Eating pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING
  8. Having mini sessions with beautiful colored leaves in the background! Here’s the link to mine this October if you’re interested #shamlessplug ūüôā https://toripetrillophotography.regfox.com/fall-mini-sessions
  9. Going to the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Providence, RI.¬† If you’ve never been it is a MUST!¬† Artists carve and paint pumpkins¬†that are then displayed all through out Roger Williams Zoo…. and they are amazing!¬† One of my favorite fall activities for sure.
  10. Purposely stepping on all of the crunchy leaves.¬†I’ve always loved that sound!

Happy Friday!¬†I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing Labor Day Weekend! ūüôā

My friend Kelly and I stopped in Alexandria, VA on the way back home from The Gathering Event last week for a headshot swap! The things that happen when you travel with photographer friends, haha. ¬†The very first time I visited Alexandria was with Ryan a few months back, and I immediately fell in love with all of its charm. ¬†Row homes, cobblestone streets, American flags everywhere, AND a beautiful waterfront? ¬†Yeah…. I’d be totally ok with booking all of my photos sessions in Alexandria from here on out. ¬†It’s just THAT cute and the photo opportunities are endless! ¬†Kelly & I had such a great time wandering through the streets and picking out pretty locations for our pictures!

Enjoy some of the photos of this beauty from our headshot swap last week!! ¬†Scrolling through them makes me want to go back ūüôā

Ooh these two! ¬†Alyson + Andrew are the absolute sweetest and a total dream couple. They came down to New Jersey all the way from Boston for their engagement session & engagement party! ¬†They brought their sweet puppy Lacey down with them for some sweet photos too…. how CUTE is she?! ¬†After e-mailing back and forth with Alyson after they booked, I discovered that she and Andrew are also Fixer Upper fans AND they love Maine… not going to lie, my heart sang a little bit, haha! ¬†Needless to say we had plenty to talk about during their engagement session.

Congratulations on your engagement, Alyson + Andrew!  I am so excited for your wedding day next year!  Enjoy some of the photos we took during their session. They are too cute!

On Monday afternoon my sweet friend Kelly and I drove down to Fredericksburg, VA to join 80 other #babybossladies for The Gathering Event with Hope Taylor & Caroline Logan Raush.¬† They’re both two of my favorite photographers and I was casually fan girling out in the audience, haha!

To say that I was blown away by listening to the two of them speak would be a serious understatement.¬† Both Caroline & Hope started their businesses at very young ages and the amount that they have accomplished since (in such a relatively short amount of time) is truly amazing.¬† It was so refreshing to hear them speak directly from their hearts. Nothing that they said was sugar coated — their talks were as real and raw as it could get.¬† They told us about their journeys as business owners and the glitches that they faced along the way.¬† I can‚Äôt imagine how difficult it must have been to have shared the less than ideal moments during their businesses (talk about bravery!), but it certainly helped to put everything back into perspective for me.¬† It humanized both Hope and Caroline as well as all of the other photographers in the industry that I admire.¬† I think it‚Äôs easy to forget sometimes that all of the trailblazers in our industry are real people.¬† That sounds so weird to say!¬† They make mistakes, face challenges, and have the same insecurities from time to time as everyone else does.¬† There is far more to their story than what we see on their Instagram feeds.

One of my favorite talks during The Gathering Event was about owning up to your mistakes.¬† Caroline shared some inspiring stories about a couple of mistakes that she had made, and how she chose to respond.¬† Instead of becoming defensive, putting up walls, or passing the blame onto someone else, she chose to own up and accept responsibility ‚ÄĒ and doing this benefited her in the long run.¬† Caroline’s¬†sincere apology and willingness to improve a situation was so much appreciated and it resulted in her booking more clients. How awesome of a lesson is that?!¬† I love it.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Hope & Caroline.  They are sweet, talented, inspiring and phenomenal business women.  I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have listened to them speak (yet again!).  I left The Gathering Event with a notebook filled to the brim with information that I can’t wait to incorporate into my business and the happiest heart ever.  Hope & Caroline, I can’t say thank you enough!!!

Ryan and I had the BEST time going away and visiting Martha’s Vineyard and Rhode Island last week! Neither of us had ever been to Martha’s Vineyard before and we absolutely fell in love with the island. ¬†On Tuesday afternoon we hopped on a quick ferry from Rhode Island that took us right into Oak Bluffs…. Talk about BEAUTIFUL. After wandering through the downtown area and spotting Vineyard Vines (my favorite!) we went over to Trinity Park to explore all of the incredible gingerbread houses (my other favorite, haha). Seriously though, I was in my glory. All of the Victorian houses were bright and vibrant and had some of the most intricate woodwork that I’ve ever seen! ¬†And don’t even get me started on the beaches — blue water that was crystal clear and not a wave in sight. ¬†Yup, I’d like to spend ALL of my summers up in Martha’s Vineyard. ¬†The next time we venture up that way we’re going to check out Edgartown. ¬†I didn’t realize how large the island was and it wasn’t possible to see everything that we wanted to on the island for the amount of time that we were there! Especially without a car, haha!

The rest of the week we spent time relaxing on the beach in Rhode Island, strolling through Watch Hill, & checking out some adorable nearby towns like Stonington & Mystic CT…. where the shopping is on point! ¬†There’s just something about New England, guys. ¬†I can’t get enough of all of the nautical charm. ¬†And I’m almost positive that Ryan feels the same way ūüôā Check out some of the iPhone photos of our trip below — looking at them is making me want to go back!

A lot of effort goes into planning for social media — maybe¬†a little more than you’d think! It’s no secret that I LOVE Instagram. ¬†I’m obsessed with it, really. ¬†I love to curate my feed and I frequently scroll through it to keeps tabs on¬†my colors, balance, perspective, and subject matter. ¬†I’m always¬†playing around with all of those different variables just to keep my feed visually interesting!

Planoly is an iPhone app that I use as my visual planner and scheduler. ¬†It synchs to my Instagram account and lets me upload new photos so that I’m able to see how it’ll work with my other photos as a whole feed. ¬†Usually, I’ll upload a couple of photos and then drag and drop until I’m liking what I see. When¬†it comes time for the post to go live, I get a push notification that I’ll click on to then officially publish my post. ¬†Aside from being a visual planner and scheduler, it gives me the ability¬†to check out my analytics and comments. ¬†Planoly is around $6 a month and it is worth every penny. ¬†It’s taken so much guess work out of the social media part of my job and it helps me stay organized! ¬†I’m hooked!
