Ashley and Matt got engaged on New Year’s Eve! Before the proposal, they had spent the majority of their day watching HGTV. Ashley mentioned how Matt really seemed to be enjoying the shows! Later in the afternoon, they went to pick up her brother’s dog (Shea!) who was going to be spending the night. Before leaving their apartment, they decided to take Shea for a walk through one of their favorite parks before heading home. As they were getting ready, Ashley noticed that Matt was getting dressed up, but figured it was just because of the holiday. After picking up Shea and walking to the park, Ashley and Matt stopped to enjoy the water view. That’s when Matt got down on one knee to propose! Matt arranged for one of his friends to photograph the entire proposal – and when they got back to the apartment, he surprised Ashley with roses and dinner reservations at her favorite Italian restaurant!
Ashley and Matt decided to have their engagement session on Governor’s Island because it was where they had their official first date! The three of us (and my best friend, Alex, who was helping me out for the day!) met up on what was one of the most beautiful days this month. As we stepped off the boat and walked over towards Nolan Park, we were commenting on how much it reminded us of Stars Hollow (any Gilmore Girls fans out there?!). Since it was the first weekend of the Pumpkin Patch kickoff, everything was beautifully decorated for fall. We had so much fun exploring all of the locations that Governor’s Island has to offer!!
Congratulations on your engagement, Ashley & Matt! I had the BEST time with you both last weekend, and I seriously cannot wait for your wedding date next October!! I know that it’s going to be beautiful!
